The Wizard of Wor Quest
(November 16th 1999 to November 30th 1999)
This is a record of my Wizard of Wor Quest, consisting of all of the message board posts related to the quest. Apologies that you cannot jump straight to a post you want; too much work for me. The quest and its main monsters were alternately inspired and borrowed from Midway's classic 1980 arcade game 'Wizard of Wor'.

Subject: ** QUEST ** Wizard of Wor pt I
Priority: Normal
The Wizard of Wor ((c)1980 Midway Manufacturing Co.) cometh!!! As
of 18th November (Thursday), the wizard's Worlings will begin to
secrete themselves about the mud. In case you had not guessed, the
Wiz is not a very friendly individual. His many goals are dread
and elusive, and inevitably bring him into conflict with mortals,
whom he despises. This means YOU. Slay any Worlings you find and
reap the spoils of WOR!!
Here come the guidelines for this week-long (approximately)
campaign. They're long, but basically I wanna nail confusion
before it exists:
(a) Players of all levels may participate. There will be Worlings
of all degrees of toughness, from easy to extremely difficult.
Just use common sense: CONsider any Worlings before starting a
fight!!!

Subject: WoW pt II
Priority: Normal
(c) Some Worlings may carry extra cash. Any other spoils will come
in the form of *tokens* which you loot from slain Worlings.
(d) Tokens are redeemable for prizes from me. Tokens are matched
to specific prizes. You won't know what prize any particular token
will get you until you hand it in. To generalise, I will say that
the tougher the token-carrying monster was, the 'better' the prize
will be, but of course that's a subjective business.
(e) IMPORTANT!!!! If ANY of a particular player's characters has
attained True Hero status (51 51 51 51), that player will only be
allowed to redeem ONE token in total!!! I aim to discourage
veterans from sweeping up every token. Just remember - if a
Worling is only about as tough as your character, or less, chances
are very good that you ALREADY HAVE whatever piece of equipment is
attached to the token it's carrying!! EG. a coral ring.

[(e) continued..] I'd prefer
you tough guys to leave alone any target that's obviously way
below you ;) There will be tons of bad guys to kill, and probably
tokens for better stuff on Worlings that are more hardassed.
Either give unwanted tokens to the very needy *cough*, or - BETTER
IDEA!!!! - give them back to me for redistribution. This earns you
brownie points. I:>
(f) The moment you get a token, it's your responsibility to either
grab me if I'm on the mud, or MUDMAIL me immediately, telling me
which one you got. Then you'll get your goodie(s) at first
opportunity *:D If I see a token has disappeared but no-one
sent me a mudmail, I will assume the mud crashed or something
along those lines and, like a stolen credit card, it'll be spayed,
and replacement(s) distributed.

Priority: Normal
Ok I'm writing this at 8:45 am MST (ie the mud's clock! I think) on the
22nd Novemeber, Monday.
Here is the situation for today:
(1) A fair few Grewors have spawned all over the mud: If any of your characters
is a TH however, you are to LEAVE THE GREWORS ALONE!! They are for
'newbies'. For the eligible, they might be found variously in the swamp,
the forest of Haon-Dor, the plains east of Corinth, Hollywood, Elemental
canyon, the gnoll stockade, Drow City, the swamp, and Drac's castle.
The Wizard of Wor is watching, and so am I.

(2) A couple of Disciples of Wor are in amongst the Grewors. These guys
also aim to fight low->mid level adventurers. If it looks like you can
flatten the Disciple with your little finger.. don't bother. Cos you
waste my time as I redistribute a token that's no good for you. Or maybe
I'll Make you redeem it and rule you out of redeeming any others!!! :p
These rules are for today in particular, okay?
(3) Last but not least - one particularly nasty Worling is in Midgaard.
There are NO restrictions on who can try this one, but if you're not a hero
and then some, you'd be stupid to try. Don't :)

Tuesday the 23rd: Today the Wizard of Wor celebrates the great misfortunes
of those adventurers who continually stray into dead-end traps, chambers
with no exits, fall off cliffs etc etc.. and then are torn to shreds
by monsters before they can even draw their swords. Worlings might be found
in such rooms today, including:
- Too Bright to Tell, The spider web, The River Bed, Steep slope,
The Broken Staircase, Mahatma's Inescapable Trap, Scaling the Mountain Wall
THE UNKNOWN
Try Galaxy, Arachnos, Haon-Dor forest, Transylvania, MST3K, and the
mountain where the black dragon is (officially known as 'Sparky's bitchy
no-name area). Ever play WUMPUS?.. When you are one room away from one
of the trap rooms, you'll see the corpse or whatever's left of someone
who went there before... (continued)

Again today, if you find Worlings that aren't aggressive and obviously
are waaaay beneath you, consider leaving them for someone their own size.

Din and I tracked down and slaughtered the GrowWor's in the Spider
Zone, The Galaxy, and Sparky's Bitching Area. Din died at the
hands(?) of the Thurwor once but was rescued by a
kind Immortal. Later on, Ohead, Krull, and I sought out
and destroyed the drenching Weirwor
in the River Bed in Dracula's castle. I died twice and
Krull got the shit beaten out of him. Ohead faired just as
badly. The last ones to depart this mud were the five
Vrawors just outside of the Spider Zone, whom I managed to
charm and eventually coerce to give me all of the 100,000 coins
apiece that they had on them. Sadly, I then was forced to slay
them as they insulted my mother.
This is about it, except I'm still wondering just who the hell
killed whatever mob was in the MST3K Zone in THE UNKNOWN.
Oh, yea...Din got a token and so did Ohead.

Wor Campaign, Wednesday 24th: Strange Games
-------------------------------------------
Today's episode was gonna be called 'The Phantom Menace', but I heard that
name was taken. Then it was going to have been called 'Funny Games', but that
is the name of an Austrian film that I think is an excruciating piece of
crap. So we have 'Strange Games'! In case you had not noticed, the Wizard of
Wor likes to play the odd game with you. One of his favoured Worlings has
come down to engage you. You will recognise her because she is holding a
'glutton's token'. For those of you THs who have been passing on tokens
waiting for something bigger, this token is a 'something bigger'. This
Worling is correspondingly powerful. There will be other less savage Worlings
for those of you choosing to skip the EXTREMELY DANGEROUS one. Inversely,
if you choose to play the game and look for the glutton's token, I ask
you to leave all other Worlings that you might see alone for today.

(continuing..) The game - part I is to find her.
Like hide'n'seek. There are about a dozen clues scattered about the land-
scape of the mud. Find the clues, then find the Worling. The clues are *in*
the landscape. You will almost always have to Look or Examine to find them.
Try fountains, desks and cabinets
Try a rope, try crystal balls and altars
Try an 'elephantine, enormous, giant, huge, immense, mammoth, titanic,
tremendous, vast' tree
Try containers and resting places for the dead and undead
Part II of the game is killing her.
These are strange games, so keep your wits about you. Cooperate to find
her, only do not post locations of found clues on the board. Use gossip
and word of mouth only :)
Good luck,

WoW campaign, Thursday 25th:
----------------------------
From my original projections of a week-long campaign, today was to have
been its final day. However, as it was initially pointed out to me by
Vicar, the thanksgiving holiday is in progress. I hope you enjoy it :)
With a dearth of players on Meat, what this means for the Wor quest is that
I am going to extend its duration in general, and schedule the last day
to be Tuesday 30th November, by the mud's clock, which I believe is what
you Americans call MST. This means that on 30th November (probably in the
evening) the Wizard of Wor will descend to face you mortals himself. He
will have the last token of the quest. During that day you might encounter
his higher level henchmen and Worlings.
I hope to keep Worlings spawning til Tuesday (!) and maybe throw in more tokens
and stuff, but I hadn't planned for the extra days, so I make no promises ;)

Wor Campaign Tuesday 30th
-------------------------
You had probably got all complacent over thanksgiving. No Worlings
harrassing you, summoning you, causing you heinous loss of xp etc.
Today, after a week of enjoying watching you go to Wor, the Wizard grows
weary of watching and comes down to earth to see what you're made of. He will show up at ** 8pm MST today at the earliest **
That means yes it could be later, but it won't be earlier. If you think
you're pretty tough, join in and try him out. If you're not a hero, and/or
don't have at least a few 100 hp to spare, and/or don't think you're
pretty tough ;)
then give him a miss, cos your xp will only suffer.
But don't feel left out!!! The Wizard is just one encounter. In the
meantime, his minions are restless, and will be causing some havoc

elsewhere too.
Meaner Worlings: The master charmer recently trapped a Thurwor in his cage.
A Morwor was seen by Mr. Teagle wandering around his manor and shape-
shifting into something more humanoid. You have been warned!! And a danger-
ous and elusive Worling has been heard muttering incantations in the

Some Worlings have been seen clumping around Sanc City too.
